if somebody don't noticed news about microsoft open-specification,
here are reminder: microsoft publish some specification about some file-formats and protocols.
you can find this here: msdn.microsoft.com
and here is specialy Excel-binary format: msdn.microsoft.com/.../cc313154.aspx
from july 2008, the specification for Excel-binary format 97-2003 is now open!

Thanks for posting the notification. Yeah, I recently came across that document.

It seems to be a bit more extensive than ”OpenOffice.org's Documentation of the Microsoft Excel File Format”:
http://sc.openoffice.org/excelfileformat.pdf

I think that the combination of the two documents will be useful for extending the capabilities of Excel5 reader / writer.
