I need to create excel file with images.

OpenXML - 2 Mb, but with bugs by opening (successfully repaired by Excel 2007 and can not open by Excel 2007 Viewer )
removedPart: /xl/sharedStrings.xml-Part with XML-Error.  (Zeichenfolgen) Invalid xml-symbol. Zeile 67, Spalte 12
removedRecord: Cell information of /xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml-Part
removedRecord: Cell information of /xl/worksheets/sheet2.xml-Part

Excel 5 - Too much time und too much memory (>1Gb) -  unsuccessfully.
I know, that Excel 5 is deprecated.

PS. Is PHPExcel the only PHP library to genarate XLS files?
Our customers use Excel 2000-2003 but not Excel 2007.

There's also PEAR Spreadsheet Excel, which is actually used within PHPExcel to provide XLS support.

Regarding the "invalid xml symbol": I assume you have German characters in your text, make sure they are encoded using utf8_encode or iconv.

OK. But PEAR Spreadsheet Excel has the same problem with images as PHPExcel (based on PEAR Spreadsheet Excel) . Is not it?

And the only possibility to generate Excel reports with many images is PHPExcel (Excel 2007 format)?

OK. Solved.

PS. Is there plans for OpenDocument support?
