All strings in supposed Excel5 XLS returning blanks

Apr 4, 2009 at 1:51 PM
I've got a program outputting Excel 5 spreadsheets.  Excel reads it fine, and claims it's a Excel 5.0/95 Workbook format.

PHPExcel has no problem opening it.  All numeric fields seem to be fine.  But, when I read a text field, I always get a blank.

The identifier string at offset 512 is not one of the ones in OLERead.php, although it's very close to the OOF identifier.  It is:

FD FF FF FF FE FF FF FF  (The OOF identifier has all FFs after the FD.

You can download an example of the file at http://ghshredders.com/misc/tg.xls.

Thanks,

Behavior of Excel5 reader now changed so it will read strings like in your case:

Thanks!

Sorry.. dumb question.. how to I get the fix?  Do I pull it from SVN?  I didn't see an obvious way to locate the change.

Will be available in next source code release tomorrow. Alternatively, just change line in PHPExcel/Reader/Excel5.php from this:

private $_codepage;

to this:

private $_codepage = 'CP1252';
