I have same problem but need help to fix.  What "folder" did you need to change "Permissions"?

Yesterday, I installed "PHPExcel 1.6.6 Production" in "xampp" in my Windows XP-Pro  system.  My php.ini has the following:
  error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE | E_STRICT
  ; upload_tmp_dir = "C:\Program Files\xampp\tmp"

When I load "01simple.php" in my browser, the xlsx does NOT display; but rather only the following text from the "echo" statements embedded in "01simple.php" display on the web page:
"13:06:55 Create new PHPExcel object 13:06:55 Set properties 13:06:55 Add some data 13:06:55 Rename sheet 13:06:55 Write to Excel2007 format 13:06:55 Peak memory usage: 7.25 MB 13:06:55 Done writing file."

No error messages display.  Putting debug statements in some of the classes verifies that the various classes are being accessed.

How do I get the xlsx file to display?  What am I missing?  Thanks for your help, russ

Forgot to mention that I'm running PHP 5.2.6 and Apache 2.2.

Correct. The test script actually generates the Excel workbook as an Excel file in the same directory as the test script itself.
